Good Company + Lots Of Wine + Creative Minds = Recipe For A Fabulous Upcoming Event Menu

I joined a small group of colleagues as well as some new friends last Friday night for a private wine tasting at the home of Jerry and Julie Edwards. Jerry, owner and Corporate Chef of Chef's Expressions, presented us with multiple bottles of wine to taste and discuss. Lucky me, I was surrounded by lots of fun food and wine enthusiasts and seated next to Rita Blackwell, President and Co-Founder of Wine Express, who offered astute observations which I found inspiring and helpful in forming my own opinions and conclusions.

We were diligent in identifying the best of the best and envisioning creative food pairings. The twist? Laura Alima, Chef's Expressions' Marketing Director, provided us with a list of all past Academy Awards' Best Picture winners and challenged us to pair the wine and food with an appropriate movie.

The result? A red carpet-worthy menu presentation, including this winning combination which I hope will remain in the seated dinner portion of the upcoming March 25th wine dinner's program:

"On The Waterfront - 1954" featuring North Atlantic Sauteed Monkfish with a Clove Beurre Blanc-Pear Hazelnut Chutney with Green Apple Chip and paired with a 2007 Domaine Ehrhart Auxerrois Pinot Val St. Gregoire from Alsace, France. Sounds delicious, yes?

Another big winner of the evening was my Sumaris necklace, a red carpet-worthy statement piece featuring a deluxe vintage brooch and chunky crystals. This is one of my all-time favorite pieces of jewelry because it transforms any LBD into something spectacular, but I can also pair it with a velvet blazer and skinny jeans like I did Friday night. I love anything one of a kind that has this much versatility!

On The Waterfront : MPTVImages.comCoincidentally, I watched "On The Waterfront" last night on TCM starring Marlon Brando and Eva Marie Saint.

After reviewing the list of movies Laura had provided us with on Friday, I realized there were several Oscar winners, including "On The Waterfront" I have yet to see, especially the winners from the 50s and 60s. Definitely on the to-do list.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to this year's Oscars and am curious as to which of the ten movies in the running will win Best Picture.

Avatar, The Blind Side, District 9, An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Bastards, Precious, A Serious Man, Up or Up In The Air....

Which movie do you want to win?

Stay tuned for more details about Chef's Expressions' March wine dinner event, including info on where to purchase your tickets. You won't want to miss this dinner.

Happy Monday!
Jennifer
