LOVE it. Think it is proper etiquette at its best and shows a tremendous amount of respect for the bride's family.

It's a very thoughtful and classy thing to do. No better way to start a relationship off on the right foot with the future father in law.

i've always kind of been take it or leave it, but since i'll be inheriting my grandmother's diamond for my engagement ring, i guess the lucky guy is going to have to ask :)
